Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is the largest division of the police department. The personnel assigned to it are responsible for responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In addition to being a first responder to all criminal calls, the Patrol Division also addresses a myriad of calls that include complaints, information, enforcement of traffic ordinances and crime prevention. Included in the Patrol Division are specialized units such as the Communications Unit (dispatch), Traffic Unit and K-9 Unit. In addition, the Patrol Division handles administration of the Cranston Accident Reduction Enforcement (CARE) Detail. In the year 2007, the Cranston Police Patrol Division responded to 71,649 calls for service and made 2,718 arrests. The Patrol Division has duplicated its impressive performance in prior years by responding to fifty-three percent of their calls for service in one minute or less, a four percent improvement in response time over the last three years. Also as in years past, ninety-five percent of calls for service were responded to in less than fifteen minutes.
