Special Victims Unit
The Special Victims Unit is committed to the investigation of child abuse and juvenile related crime and is part of the Detective Division. This unit is tasked with the care of sensitive investigations and routinely works with other state and municipal agencies to solve juvenile related crime. The Special Victims Unit, along with the Bureau of Criminal Identification, is responsible for sexual offender registration notifications within the City of Cranston. This department has recently implemented strong safeguards and agency policy and procedure that will enhance our ability to notify and monitor offenders required to register under Rhode Island law. The Special Victims Unit also conducts case screenings for juvenile cases that are referred to the Juvenile Hearing Board in lieu of prosecution through the Family Court.
